Iceland joins DARIAH-EU as a full member

Iceland joined DARIAH in July this year, with CDHA as the national coordinating institution. Through DARIAH, we have access to expertise and resources that will strengthen the development of Digital Humanities in Iceland. CDHA will make its own resources available through DARIAH and meet the international quality standards required. In the next semesters, we will work towards closer collaboration between DARIAH and CLARIN in Iceland.

National digitization plans

CDHA has been commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education to develop a new national plan for the digitization of Icelandic Cultural Heritage and Arts, with focus on digital data to facilitate research. Sigrún Guðmundsdóttir has been hired to work on this project for the next few months. The aim is to submit a new national plan to the ministry in January next year.

New resource list

CDHA launched a new resource list providing an overview of databases maintained by MSHL and its member institutions, including information on access and use. The list also includes additional databases of relevance that are managed by external organisations.

Upcoming Events

Lecture series: Digital Humanities After Hours

This autumn, CDHA launched a new lecture series: Digital Humanities After Hours. We ask experts to give accessible introductions to tools and projects that relate to our work. The events are livestreamed on our YouTube channel, and recordings are made available after the events. We have already hosted two events. The third lecture is scheduled for 7 October, where Arnoud Wils from Maastricht University will give a talk with the title: "From Static Pages to Interactive Stories: Using AI to bring Art Research to Life".

DARIAH-EU webinar series: Friday Frontiers

DARIAH’s online talk series continues on 7 November, with Jenny Kwok (University of Hong Kong) on “AI-Human Synergy: Enhancing Cultural Knowledge Through Ethical and Inclusive Use of Large Language Models (LLMs).”

AI for Image Collections: Hands-On Workshop

CDHA is collaborating with its Swedish twin, HUMINFRA, on sharing expertise and knowledge, including by promoting each other’s events. It is a pleasure to share an invitation from the National Library of Sweden’s KBLab to an online workshop on 21 October (08:00–10:00 CET). Here you will learn how multimodal AI models like CLIPtopic can support image and text search in large digital collections. Open to all, free with registration by 17 October.

Open Calls

DHNB 2026 – Call for Proposals

The annual Digital Humanities in the Nordic and Baltic Countries conference will take place in Aarhus, 9–13 March 2026. The call for proposals is now open. Contributions are welcome from all areas of Digital Humanities and the Arts. Application deadline: 29 October.

ANTIDOTE – Advanced Training in Digitization of Older Texts

The Erasmus+ project ANTIDOTE invites applications for its program on digital editions of manuscripts. The program is open to MA and PhD students and includes training weeks in Klosterneuburg (December 2025) and Bratislava (May 2026). Application deadline: 7 October.
